Artist Statement
| The chosen work relates to both The Power of Two as well as Crossings. From the collection titled “Painting My Dreams”, this artwork examines the interplay between the private dream world and public expression of emotion through art. Through communicating the emotional experience of the dream through colour theory, and memory of the dream through a sort of phantom imagery, this piece acts as a bridge (or crossing) between the imagination and the real world. Titled “The Look of Love Between Friends Who Sit Around Flowers” speaks to the power of two through the exchange between the subject and audience. With the subject in the foreground directly looking to the viewer, she essentially invites the audience into the dreamscape. Here, the exchange communicates the sense of inclusion in a group setting; it only takes one person to include another in a group setting, thus speaking to the power of two. |
